Chelsea’s Caicedo Dominates Midfield in Premier League Matchweek 7

In Chelsea’s 2–1 win over Liverpool, Moisés Caicedo delivered a standout performance that earned him the Premier League Player of the Week for match week 7. Scoring the opening goal with a thunderous strike into the top-left corner, marking his second goal of the season, Caicedo completed 72 passes with a remarkable 91% accuracy, showcasing his composure and precision in possession throughout the match.

Defensively, he was a force to be reckoned with. Caicedo won 10 duels, made five combined tackles and interceptions, and recovered possession eight times. He also covered approximately 11.2 kilometers during the match, reflecting his tireless work rate and spatial coverage. His overall performance earned him a match rating of 8.6 out of 10 from analysts.

When compared to other top Premier League midfielders, he averaged 3.2 tackles per 90 minutes, which is higher than Arsenal Declan Rice’s 2.7 and Newcastle's Bruno Guimarães’ 2.4. His interception rate stands at 2.1 per 90, again surpassing Rice’s 1.8 and Guimarães’ 1.5. Caicedo also boasts a 62% duel win rate, outperforming Rice’s 54% and Guimarães’ 58%.

In terms of passing, Caicedo maintains a 91% pass accuracy, better than Rice’s 89% and Guimarães’ 87%. While he creates fewer chances per 90 minutes, just 0.6 compared to Rice’s 1.3 and Guimarães’ 1.1, his role as a defensive anchor is clearly defined and executed with excellence.

Although Rice has scored three goals and provided one assist this season, and Guimarães has contributed two goals and two assists, Caicedo’s influence lies in his ability to control the midfield, break up opposition play, and set the tempo for Chelsea’s transitions.
