Image
The Premier League’s ninth round of fixtures delivered shocks as Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Crystal Palace all dropping points. Manchester United, however, produced a statement performance at Old Trafford to climb into sixth place. At the Gtech Community Stadium, Liverpool’s defensive frailties were once again laid bare in a pulsating 3–2 defeat to Brentford. Dango Ouattara’s early strike set the tone before Kevin Schade doubled the hosts’ advantage on the stroke of half‑time. Milos Kerkez briefly gave the Reds hope, but Igor Thiago’s penalty restored Brentford’s cushion. Mohamed Salah volleyed home late on, yet despite enjoying more than 66 per cent possession and firing 18 shots, Arne Slot’s side could not find a leveler. Brentford, by contrast, were ruthless, converting three of their eight efforts on target. At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s inconsistency deepened in dramatic fashion. Alejandro Garnacho marked his first goal in blue with a fourth‑minute opener, but Sunderl...

United, who had not triumphed at Liverpool’s ground since 2016, struck inside the opening minute when Bryan Mbeumo stunned the home crowd with the fastest goal in the history of this fixture. Liverpool, dominant in possession and relentless in attack, eventually levelled through Cody Gakpo midway through the second half. But just as Anfield sensed a winner for the hosts, Maguire rose highest to nod in Bruno Fernandes’ cross six minutes from time, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.   For much of the evening, United were forced to defend deep and in numbers. The Blues have now seen red in five consecutive matches across all competitions, an unwanted record that mixes flashes of defiance with a growing disciplinary concern. From Robert Sánchez’s early dismissal at O...
